MARKLEVILLE DEATH RIDE

Nancy Kuhn, an ex Ultrahealth patient, participated in the annual Markleville Death Ride, July 9, 2011.  The ride consists of climbing past 5 mountain passes over 129 miles; a total of 15,000 feet of elevation.

Marty also participated in the event.

Chinese Delegation Visit 2011

Last year we closed the clinic for half a day to welcome our friends from the far east, the (name of the group) and provided them with presentations on how we assess and treat various conditions and injuries ranging from ankle, knee, back, and shoulders. They appreciated it so much that they asked to come back again this year with a different group. We obliged their request, but instead of closing the clinic, we invited them to observe how we treat actual patients. They had an opportunity to directly witness treatment sessions of two post op ACL reconstruction patients and one post op rotator cuff repair patient. They also experienced first hand evaluations done on two of their members for an elbow injury and a knee injury. They were provided with hands on demonstration for manual therapy and prescribed a home exercise program for those specific injuries. We ended with a question and answer session, and boy did they have questions. Of course, we had answers. It was a great learning experience for both of us and we were glad to have shared our knowledge of physical therapy. We want to thank all who participated in making this event a wonderful experience, especially the patients who allowed us to use their treatment sessions as a means for teaching.

LAKE DEL VALLE OPEN WATER SWIM

Always a great swim!  The Mattox family of Miguel, John and Marty participated in the annual Lake Del Valle .75 Open Water Swim, June 12th  in Livermore, California.  The venue was the site of the National Open Water Championships in 2010.

While John and Marty finished in the lower parts of their age-group divisions, Miguel finished 6th overall in the elite division.

TNT Expo

Ultrahealth Physical Therapy, with other fitness companies, set up a booth at the team-in-training summer orientation to discuss with participants how to achieve their running goals and to promote local services.

Team-in-training participants asked questions regarding what exercises to perform that are specifically geared toward running.  Specific training techniques were also discussed to avoid overuse injuries.  The importance of increasing running distance slowly is a key factor to maintaining a healthy musculoskeletal system during training.  The participants were also encouraged to enter the raffle for a free thirty minute acupuncture and massage session.

Ultrahealth physical therapy loves being a part of the community that promotes a healthy lifestyle with other fitness enthusiasts.
