From June 29 to July 6 this summer, some of the United States fastest swimmers will gather together in Omaha, Nebraska in the US Olympic Trials to determine who will make the men's and women's Bejing Olympic Team. Among the talented competitors will be 15-year old Debra Roth from Corte Madera, California. Debra will be swimming the 100 Backstroke against the likes of Natalie Coughlin.
What is most incredible is that almost a year ago, Debra had several incidences of shoulder subluxations during practice and competitions. In October of 2007, she was diagnosed with "multidirectional instability". And for a backstroker, this is not a very good diagnosis. But with the guidance of the orthopedic surgeon who advised to "strengthen everything", Debra's tenacity in her dryland shoulder rehab strengthening activities, as well as in the pool has led her to Omaha! Congratulations, Debra!
We will be cheering for you!
